Metalcore heavy hitters Miss May I have dropped another new official music video, this time for the title track of their upcoming June 2nd album, Shadows Inside.
Along with multiple shots of hands reaching towards an evil looking mask, the footage primarily features live performance by the band and is often dark and jarring.
“Not only does this song open up our new record, it also sets the tone for the record,” explains singer Levi Benton. “This album is all about changes throughout life, good and bad. It’s about the past that lives within everyone; their ‘Shadows Inside.’ The lyrics talk about how great new things can give light to your past and put you in a better place.
“We have quite a few videos and we’re always trying to change things up. With this video for ‘Shadows Inside’ we not only wanted to recreate the cover of the record in real life, but we also wanted the performance to be abstract. We had black lights and used old lens effects from the ’90s to achieve a very classic look and something totally different for us.”
Ohio’s metalcore band Miss May I went all out for an extreme video for new single “Lost in the Grey,” which will appear on the band’s upcoming album Shadows Inside, due out June 2.
“The shoot involved an entire forest landscape set, live action volatile weather elements and rodents in mouths,” shared singer Levi Benton with Loud Wire. “We have never had a video like this before. The vibe for the song is really captured well and sets a great image not only for the song, but the record as a whole. Shadows Inside is the most honest record we have ever created and a big part of that was just having the freedom and time to put everything we had into it.”
Benton also explained why “Lost in the Grey” was the perfect choice for the lead single.
“This is a great first track to release to the mass as it represents the effort it takes to get out of the complacent and stale life people live,” he said. “The song is about finding that hope and drive to push you to a new and better life. The lion has always represented hope and ambition and now with this video it’s physical and represented as a mask that one needs to show them there is a better life for everyone, if you push for it.”
Shadows Inside can be pre-ordered here, and look for Miss May I hitting the road in support of the album beginning in May.

Ohio metallers Miss May I went super heavy in both theme and music for their new video for the track “I.H.E.”
The clip focuses on a teenaged boy who is building a coffin with a harsh authority figure. As they drag it into the woods, the teen can’t take it anymore and turns on his abuser, tackling him and depositing the body in the previously empty coffin.
The intense visual is also complimented by Miss May I’s trademark brutal sound and skittish camera angles.
Currently on the Vans Warped Tour, Miss May I has an album entitled Deathless coming out Aug. 7, but in the meantime, check out the “I.H.E.” video after the jump. (more…)
