Nassie To Host Two Charvel Clinics

Posted on February 10th, 2012 by MDuffy

Bleeding Through guitarist Dave Nassie is set to hold two Charvel guitar clinics in Washington at a pair of Ted Brown Music locations.

On Feb. 28, Nassie will be at the Richland, Wash., store, and he’ll hit Tacoma, Wash., on March 1.

Nassie will introduce fans to the Charvel Desolation series with shredding in-store performances.  Nassie will also participate in Q&A sessions and meet with fans at each clinic.

Nassie recently spoke with Guitar World about his desire to host Charvel clinics.

“I’m not one of those guitar players who are seeking out custom guitars. I don’t want to abuse the privilege of being able to get free instruments,” he told the music mag.  ”All I really I want is to be able to go do my clinics and be able to teach — to be able to go to places like MI and have seminars and to have a company get behind me that has guitars that I just really like playing.”

As for Bleeding Through, the band recently released its seventh studio album, The Great Fire.  For more information, visit Bleeding Through’s official website.

Adrenaline Mob Announces New Bassist

Posted on February 8th, 2012 by MDuffy

Adrenaline Mob – also consisting of guitarist Mike Orlando, singer Russel Allen (Symphony X) and drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold) – announced some big news on Wednesday via their Facebook page, as Disturbed bassist John Moyer will be joining the supergroup.

Moyer will be making his onstage debut with the group on March 12 at New York City’s Hiro Ballroom, a day before they release their debut full-length, Omertá.

“Mike Portnoy called me about auditioning for his new band Adrenaline Mob,” Moyer said in a statement. “He had heard through the grapevine that I was looking to stay busy while Disturbed is on hiatus. After jamming with Russ, MO, and Portnoy, the chemistry as musicians was undeniable. I am super stoked about joining ‘The Family’ and I can’t wait to hit the road with these guys and see what kind of musical mayhem we can create!”

Orlando, who also performs with Tred and Sonic Stomp, also recently sat down to run through his main guitar collection from the studio, picking up a Desolation Series axe, a So-Cal and a San Dimas.

Orlando then played “Shaga Duga” off Sonic Stomp II.

Charvel Q&A: Warren DeMartini

Posted on February 6th, 2012 by MDuffy

It’s been a good year for Ratt guitarist Warren DeMartini.

He’s back writing for his massive rock band with singer Stephen Pearcy – with a new album and tour due out this year, according to Pearcy’s official Facebook page — and he recently recorded a song with Pearcy and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl that should be finished soon.

The Grohl song was special.

The Foos recorded everything from their latest album in a lost form – analog – and that inspired Grohl to cull together a documentary in which DeMartini was featured, because he’s used the same Sound City analog boards when recording for Ratt.  Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and Slipknot have also recorded at Sound City.

Coming back to this setup with uber-producer Butch Vig was fun for DeMartini.

DeMartini recently sat down with to discuss his latest endeavors. How did you feel after recording with such an iconic setup?

DeMartini: “Ratt recorded out of the cellar at Sound City.  There was another studio, but a good portion was at Sound City.  Nirvana recorded there. A lot of bands did. It was very famous for its drum room, too.  When it closed, they had a list of people who wanted to preserve the mixing board. Dave went out and they gave it to him, and he built a studio of his own.

“They went around and did a film about the iconic stuff that was recorded at that desk, and it’s amazing to wrap your head around everything that came out of there.”

I heard you were writing new Ratt songs with Stephen Pearcy. When can we expect new material?

“I think it will be out in 2012.  We’ve been doing this a long time together (laughs).  I think we know each other pretty well.”

Would you like to do another record all on analog?

“I would work on it again.  The trick is finding a producer who’s in to working with analog.  You find that a lot of the new crowd is used to the immediate edit capabilities that can be had.  It’s a new crop of people where, little by little, analog is known less and less.”

What about with Butch Vig?

“I hope that we work with Butch again. Based on that one track, it was such a great time.  He was great to work with. If he wanted to and had the time right now, it would be great.”

Evanescence Drops Haunting New Video For ‘My Heart Is Broken’

Posted on February 1st, 2012 by MDuffy

Evanescence’s Amy Lee paints a dramatic and haunting picture in the band’s latest video for “My Heart is Broken,” off their 2011′s eponymous album.

Lee sings about being in a dark place while trying to overcome obstacles to free oneself.  While guitarist Terry Balsamo and his bandmates flail on their instruments in the darkness, Lee finds herself in desolate places like a field of grass and a crumbling room.

Watch the action below:
